A balanced, healthy diet can do wonders, not just for general health, but also for improved sexual performance. Here are some basic dietary measures you can take to get started on the path to sexual vitality.
Easy on the fat!
We really don't have to tell you that a high-fat diet is bad news. Heart disease, poor cardiovascular function, clogged arteries... need we say more? All this prevents adequate blood flow to the genitals. Which in turn interferes with the ability to perform. Does this mean you need to stick to boiled food for good sex? No. The easiest way to cut fat is to go easy on processed, prepackaged foods, avoid deep fried stuff and eat more fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. So, the next time you're at the grocery store, walk away from biscuits, chips, all the various junk snacks, processed cheese, butter and any other food filled with chemicals and preservatives.
Control Cholesterol
Cholesterol blocks circulation in the small blood vessels. We know this is bad for your heart. What you probably don't know is that's it's also bad for your sex life for the same reason - it prevents adequate blood flow from reaching the genital region during arousal. And just in case you're thinking men only, this probably applies to women as well. Just as blood flows into the penis to cause an erection, blood flow into the vagina and clitoris results in lubrication and engorgement. With cholesterol blocking the arteries, this process may result in reduced arousal.
Avoiding cholesterol in your diet is not difficult at all. Cut down on egg yolks, butter, cream, red meat and palm or coconut oils. Exercising regularly will also help reduce cholesterol significantly.
Fruits, vegetables and whole grains...
Fruits and vegetables provide you with many key nutrients, both for general health and sexual fitness. Leafy green vegetables and fresh citrus fruits all help in improved blood flow to the genitals. A high fiber and starch diet is important for cardiovascular health. Whole grains, nuts and seeds add both fiber and complex carbohydrates to your diet. And a huge bonus is that whole grains tend to be more filling, which helps in weight management.
More proteins, more fun!
Protein provides many of the essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals that help in enhanced sexual function. But, hey - no red meats! Fish, chicken (without the skin), lentils and beans are your best options. Soya products are low in fat and excellent sources of protein, fibre, as well as many vitamins and minerals.
Add a bit of spice...
Spicy foods enhance the sexual response. Chillies stimulate the nervous system, causing us to sweat, our faces to flush, and our heart rates to rise, simulating the effects of sexual arousal. Ginger is also considered a sexual stimulant because it stimulates metabolism, warms the body, and prevents buildup of fat in the arteries.
And finally...
Last but not least, eat a balanced diet. A proper diet will improve health, keep you lean, and make you more attractive to the opposite sex!
