For prolonged foreplay and greater intimacy, a relaxed, side-by-side position is just right. As neither partner bears the other's weight, both have their hands and legs free for embrace. It also offers greater scope for conversation during lovemaking.

Here, the woman lies on her back, relaxed. The man lies on his side with one leg over her. Though this position has insufficient scope for direct genital stimulation, it lends variety and promotes intimacy. It's an ideal position for the earlier stages of lovemaking - when you are just getting to know each other.

Most rear-entry positions offer close contact, pleasing pressure on the genitals and facilitate deep penetration. This particular position is one of the most gentle rear-entry positions as the woman can control the tempo of lovemaking.

The man sits on the edge of the bed or a stool, and the woman sits on his lap, straddling his legs. His hands are free to hold and caress her. When deeper penetration is avoided, this position could even be suitable for people with medical conditions that rule out other conventional forms of intercourse.
