The basic missionary position and it is universally popular since it relaxes both partners, thus making entry easy. Intercourse can be either shallow, prolonged and tender or deep, brief and tough. But the choice is left to both partners, depending on their mood. This position allows for the man's pelvic thrusts with ease. The missionary position relaxes both partners so that they may caress and kiss.
The advantage with this position is that while it permits deep penetration, some women do find that uncomfortable. In which case, it provides freedom to move. It is also the position likeliest to produce mutual orgasm. This position is not the most ideal if the male partner is either heavy or if he suffers premature ejaculation. This position may definitely be avoided if the female partner is in an advanced state of pregnancy.
This is the exact opposite of the missionary position with the woman astride, giving her complete control of the length of intercourse duration and its intensity too. She can also shift or try out other positions without losing contact. Sexologists maintain that the "woman-on-top" positions give the greatest pleasures to both partners.
The woman's pelvic thrusts determine depth of penetration as its freed from the man's weight. The male partner is now more relaxed than ever, free to caress and he can often delay orgasm. This position is ideal if the male partner is tall while the female partner is shorter. But many men dilike playing a passive role so there is a definite focus on what works for the couple. This method may not be very effective for achieving conception.
