Who knows how it all started... But whatever the origin, 14th February celebrations as Valentine's Day has come to stay. It is the day when people pause to exchange and give gifts. It is a time to show your love.
Valentine was apparently a priest during the third century in Rome. The emperor of Rome at that time believed that his soldiers should have no distractions so he ordered them to not get married. Valentine defied those imperial orders and performed the marriage ceremonies, secretly. His defiant act was discovered and he was put to death. To honor Valentine's bravery, he was made a saint and is remembered to this day, on this special day in February.
