What's that? Well, it simply means not having sex in any form. Now you will find that some people think waiting to have sex is not cool or no fun at all. Actually, abstinence does make a lot of sense when you stop and think about it. Especially when you're still in your teens.
Most important, abstinence is the best protection from sexually transmitted infections - which by the way can happen without intercourse. Skin-to-skin contact can cause herpes and genital warts.
Equally important are your personal values and feelings. Teenage years are a time when you experience a lot of emotional changes. Your feelings about yourself, family, friends and potential love interests will keep changing - almost from day-to-day. So, no matter what your feelings on sex are, it may be a good idea to wait until you are sure of yourself and things begin to "feel right."
